In the modern workforce, it is not uncommon to see women being the victim of sterotypes and biasedness. They typically receive less pay than male workers and they also get less benefits. A 2008 survey of CEO pay at 3,242 North American companies by the Corporate Library found that female CEOs earned more in base pay, but when cash bonuses, perks and stock compensation were included, women made a median $1.7 million, or 85% of what male CEOs made. This shows that people are more biased towards male employees, and give them more advantages and more bonuses.
Employers are generally more biased towards male workers because they feel that women tend to let things like shoes, handbags, make-up and relationships hamper their productivity. They are also afraid of female employees going on paid maternal leave, which is a great bane to them. This could also wreak havoc in the middle of a project, or in a position of importance. People usually feel that women should stay at home nurturing children and tend to domestic matters. They think that women are less capable than men in many aspects, such as manual labour.
I feel that women should deserve equal standing and opportunities as men. They do just as much work as men and they still have work to do when they get home, like cleaning the house and taking care of kids. Nobody's pay should be determined by their gender. Would you think it acceptable if pay was determined by a person's race or nationality? People should get paid based on there experience and the work that they do. If there is a woman and a man applying for the same job, and the woman has more experience. and both people were hired, the woman should be getting paid more.
How can one justify by giving someone more or less pay because of their gender? Gender does not affect how intellegent or how well one does his work. Women have just the same amount of potential that men have, and an equal amount of pay and opportunities should be adequet. Equal job should be equal to same pay.
Although women might not be suitable for some jobs, like manual labour, they are more suitable than men in other jobs, for example, precise jobs like sewing and mabye some lab jobs.
Therefore, I think that women should be given queal standing and opportunities in the workforce.
